The short version
Writeth has no analytics, advertising, telemetry, user accounts, developer backend, audio history, or transcript history. This website also uses no analytics, trackers, advertising pixels, accounts, or cookies.
What the app handles
- Microphone audio recorded only while you hold your chosen dictation shortcut.
- The active transcript and cleaned result needed to complete your dictation.
- Your OpenAI API key if you use the bring-your-own-key transcription path.
- Local preferences such as shortcut, microphone, cleanup style, personal dictionary, and application-specific overrides.
- Trial timestamps and the minimum license information required to activate and validate a purchase.
Where speech goes
On macOS 26 and later
When the compatible Apple speech model is selected, transcription happens on your Mac. Writeth does not send that recording to a Writeth server.
On macOS 14 through 25
Completed audio is sent directly from your Mac to OpenAI’s API using your own API key. The returned transcript is sent for your selected cleanup style with response storage disabled in the request. OpenAI’s terms and data controls apply independently.
Writeth does not send the identity of the destination app, your Mac’s name, or a hardware identifier to OpenAI.
Storage and deletion
Your API key, trial record, random installation identifier, and license record are stored in macOS Keychain. Nonsecret settings stay in standard macOS preferences. Temporary audio is deleted after success, cancellation, failure, interruption, termination when possible, or next-launch recovery.
Transcript text is held only for the active workflow and clipboard recovery. Writeth does not persist it to a database or file. Your clipboard, clipboard manager, and destination application may retain pasted text independently.
Purchases and licensing
Purchases will use Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record and licensing provider. Activation and status checks send Lemon Squeezy only the license key, a random installation label, and the saved license instance identifier. They do not include audio, transcripts, your API key, personal dictionary, or destination app.
Your choices
You can remove your API key in Writeth, revoke it in the OpenAI dashboard, clear your personal dictionary, remove application overrides, deactivate a licensed Mac, revoke Microphone or Accessibility permission in System Settings, and uninstall the app.
